Grant eligibility checker

Answer five questions and we’ll match you against the live UK schemes — with their deadlines up front. This is a guide, not a decision: always confirm on gov.uk before relying on a grant.

Figures checked October 2026

ECO4 ends 31 December 2026. If you receive benefits and your home has a low EPC rating, apply now — installer capacity fills up before scheme deadlines, and applications started after the end date won’t qualify.

The UK energy grants landscape in late 2026

Three schemes do most of the work. ECO4 is the big one for low-income households — fully funded insulation and heating measures — and it ends on 31 December 2026, which makes the next few weeks the last realistic window to start an application. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is simpler: £7,500 off a heat pump (£9,000 in the off-gas-grid window, £2,500 for air-to-air), claimed by your MCS installer, running to 2030 for England and Wales. And the Warm Homes: Local Grant, delivered by councils to March 2028, is the scheme that picks up where ECO4 leaves off for insulation and low-carbon heating.

Layered under all of them is the 0% VAT rate on energy-saving installations, which quietly takes a fifth off the labour-and-materials cost of solar, heat pumps and insulation until 31 March 2027. None of these schemes require you to use a particular installer, and no legitimate scheme charges an application fee or asks for bank details by phone — if someone does, it isn’t the scheme.

How to apply without wasting time

For ECO4 and Warm Homes, start with your local council’s energy-advice page or the gov.uk eligibility pages, and expect a home assessment before anything is agreed — that’s normal, and it’s free. For the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, get quotes from MCS-certified installers and let the chosen one apply: model the post-grant price first so you can spot an inflated “before” price. This checker is a matching guide built from the published rules; the schemes themselves make the final call, and rules change — every deadline above was checked in October 2026.

Grant questions

I’m a tenant — can I get anything?

Private tenants can qualify for ECO4 and Warm Homes with landlord consent, and landlords themselves face EPC minimum standards. Social tenants: your housing provider runs its own upgrade programmes — ask them directly rather than applying individually.

Do solar panels have a grant?

There’s no general solar panel grant in 2026. ECO4 can occasionally fund solar as part of a package for eligible homes. For everyone else, the help is indirect: 0% VAT until March 2027 and SEG payments for exports.

What happens when ECO4 ends?

Warm Homes: Local Grant (to March 2028) becomes the main route for low-income households, delivered through councils rather than energy suppliers. If you’re eligible for ECO4 now, don’t wait for the successor scheme — funding and installer capacity are not guaranteed to carry over.
