Figures checked October 2026 Estimate

Combi: heats water on demand, no tank. System: cylinder, built-in pump. Regular: cylinder plus cold-water tank.
Bigger homes need a higher-output boiler (more kW), which costs more.
Oil and LPG boilers cost more to buy and install than gas equivalents.
Estimated installed cost—

Like-for-like replacement: boiler, flue, controls, chemical flush, Gas Safe (or OFTEC) registration and disposal of the old unit. Moving the boiler or converting type adds an estimated £500–£1,500.

What a new boiler costs in the UK in 2026

A straightforward combi swap costs an estimated £2,000–£3,500 installed in 2026. System and regular boilers run higher — typically £2,300–£4,100 — because there’s a cylinder and more pipework involved. Oil and LPG models add roughly £500–£1,000. The boiler itself is only about half the bill: the rest is labour, the flue, a magnetic filter, controls, system flushing and certification. That split is why two quotes for the “same” job can differ by £800 and both be legitimate.

What pushes a quote up: relocating the boiler (new flue route, longer pipe runs), converting from a regular/system setup to a combi (tank removal, pressure upgrades), asbestos flue removal in older properties, and premium brands with long warranties. What should never push it up: vague “unforeseen extras” agreed after the old boiler is already off the wall. Get the full scope in writing.

Always get three quotes — and consider the alternative

Fit like-for-like quotes side by side: same boiler class, same warranty length, same scope. A cheap boiler with a 2-year warranty is not cheaper than a mid-range one with 10 years. And before signing for any boiler, run the heat pump comparison: with a £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant available in England and Wales, a heat pump can cost a similar amount upfront — the running-cost maths at October 2026 prices is closer than most people expect.

Boiler cost questions

How long does a boiler replacement take?

A like-for-like swap is usually one day; conversions (e.g. regular to combi) take two to three. You should not be without heating for more than a night in a planned replacement.

Can I get a grant towards a new boiler?

There is no general boiler grant, and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme deliberately excludes fossil boilers. Low-income households may qualify for heating help under ECO4 (ends 31 December 2026) — check the grant checker.

What warranty should I expect?

5–10 years on the boiler from major brands if installed and serviced by an accredited installer; 1–2 years on the installation work itself. Annual servicing is usually a warranty condition.
